Stark FDRU's Mission
The Stark Fire Department Rehab Unit (FDRU) provides critical ground support services to fire departments and other emergency respondents during emergency response situations. The organization's mission is to provide for the health, safety and comfort of firemen and other emergency personnel when responding to natural and man-made disasters.
Stark FDRU was started in 2012 after a major fire in Alliance left the Alliance Fire Department with personnel dispatched for 18 hours without provisions. Steve Clark, a retired Nimishillen Township firefighter, and a volunteer team of emergency management professionals worked to establish Stark FDRU to fill this critical void.
In 2012, Stark FDRU was dispatched for three (3) calls. Each year, the number of calls increased as additional fire companies in our service area learned of Stark FDRU. In only four (4) short years later, that number increased twenty-fold to sixty (60) calls in 2016.
With each passing year, this volunteer led and staffed fire company has grown adding to its fleet, equipment and resources and expanding the area in which it operates. Committed to the safety and effectiveness of it mission, the volunteers investing countless hours in training and development in the areas of of the volunteer.
Today, in addition to supporting firefighters, Stark FDRU units respond to disasters that require long-term operations such as Hazmat incidents, and water rescues.
